Scripture
Psalm 96:3
“Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.”
Quoted from King James Version (public domain).
The story
Why this verse
Psalm 96 is a public psalm. Its praise spills past the walls of the sanctuary and travels: declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. Worship is not diminished by being shared; it is completed by it. The psalm looks forward to a world where every family of the earth hears the good news of God’s reign. Among The Nations picks up that outward motion. It is a reminder that the song we sing when we gather is meant to be heard in the ordinary places where we live, work and speak.
Lyrics
The words of the song
Jehovah, You have been so good to me
Today I lift my voice
And give You all the praise
When I was down, You lifted me up
When I was weak, You gave me strength
You made a way where there was no way
Your mercy carried me through
Through every valley, through every storm
You never left my side
Now I stand with a grateful heart
And testify of Your love
CHORUS
I will praise You among the nations
I will sing Your name among the people
For Your goodness has carried me
Forever, Lord, I’ll worship You
You opened doors no man could close
You blessed my life beyond my dreams
You turned my mourning into dancing
And filled my heart with joy
Every blessing that I see
Every breath that I take
Is a reason to lift my hands
And give thanks to You today
CHORUS
I will praise You among the nations
I will sing Your name among the people
For Your goodness has carried me
Forever, Lord, I’ll worship You
BRIDGE
From the east to the west
Let the whole world know
You are faithful, You are worthy
You alone deserve the praise
From generation to generation
Your love remains the same
I will tell of Your greatness
And glorify Your name
CHORUS
I will praise You among the nations
I will sing Your name among the people
For Your goodness has carried me
Forever, Lord, I’ll worship You
I will praise You!
I will praise You!
Among the nations, Lord
I will sing of You!
Reflection
Sit with it
Who is one person outside your usual circle who needs to hear good news? Ask God for a natural way to share it this week.
A prayer
Lord of every nation, make my praise public. Give me courage to speak of Your goodness where I live, and let my life point beyond me to You.
Amen.
