Scripture
Psalm 23:1
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
Quoted from King James Version (public domain).
The story
Why this verse
The shepherd’s psalm does not begin with a request. It begins with a relationship: the LORD is my shepherd. From that relationship flows the strange, quiet confidence of “I shall not want.” This is not a promise that every desire will be met. It is the deeper assurance that the One leading me knows what I need — green pasture, still water, a restored soul, a path that is right even when it is hard. I Lack Nothing rests in that provision. It is a song for the moment when the hand holding you matters more than the map in front of you.

Reflection
Sit with it
Where have you confused a want with a need? What would it look like to trust the Shepherd with the difference?
A prayer
Shepherd of my soul, lead me. Quiet the part of me that grasps. Teach me to rest in Your provision and to follow where You go.
Amen.
