Scripture
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

The story
Why this verse
Psalm 46 is not a peaceful psalm at first. Nations rage, kingdoms totter, mountains fall into the sea. And into that noise comes the command: be still, and know that I am God. Stillness here is not escape from reality; it is a deliberate turning toward the One who is unmoved by it. The psalm does not ask us to manufacture calm. It asks us to stop pretending that the outcome depends entirely on us, and to remember who holds the earth. Be Still is a song of that remembering — a breath taken in the middle of the storm, not after it.
Lyrics
The words of the song
Mm… mm… yeah
In Your presence… we are still
Chorus
Be still… and know… I am God
Be still… my soul… He is Lord
In silence… I hear… Your voice
Be still… be still… I am God
When the noise is loud around me
And my thoughts begin to race
I will rest inside Your promise
I will seek Your holy face
Every fear that tries to find me
Every doubt that fills my mind
I surrender in Your presence
Leave it all, and I go quiet
Pre-Chorus
(Lead) I will wait on You…
(Choir) We will wait on You…
(Lead) In the stillness…
(Choir) You are moving…
Chorus
Be still… and know… I am God
Be still… my soul… He is Lord
In silence… I hear… Your voice
Be still… be still… I am God
You don’t speak in all the thunder
Not always in the flame
But a whisper in the stillness
Calling out my name
So I lay my burdens down now
At Your feet, I find my peace
In the quiet, You restore me
All my striving finally cease
Stillness… stillness… I find You there
Stillness… stillness… You always care
No more running… no more fear
In Your presence… You are here
Stay… stay… stay with me Lord
Here… here… You restore
Be still… and know… I am God
Be still… my soul… He is Lord
In silence… I hear… Your voice
Be still… be still… I am God
Be still… be still…
And know… and know…
You are God…
Reflection
Sit with it
What is loud in your life right now? Before you answer it, sit for sixty seconds in silence and repeat: “You are God; I am not.”
A prayer
God of the shaking earth, steady me. I release the need to control what only You can hold. Teach me the stillness that knows You are near.
Amen.
